Paid Vacation

  • PGY-1 Two weeks plus several days holiday break

  • PGY-5 Two weeks plus several days holiday break
  • PGY-6 Two weeks plus several days holiday break

One additional week of vacation may be taken during third year or subsequent year.

Continuing Education

  • Five days to attend professional meetings and courses
  • Continuing education (CE) funds up to $1,900/year per resident available to cover registration fees and travel expenses
  • CE funds can also be used to pay professional dues and purchase approved educational resources such as software and textbooks

Medical / Dental Insurance

  • CMC provides (at no charge to the House Officer) medical coverage under the Choice 20 Plan, prescription drug coverage (CarolinaCare and WHI) and CIGNA Dental Plan for House Staff and their dependents. Professional liability, life and disability insurances are provided for House Staff only. Premiums for medical insurance are paid for House Staff and their dependents only if the Choice 20 Plan is chosen. House Staff are responsible for co-pays for office visits, prescription and dental expenses. Medical Education Administration will assist with inpatient coinsurance and deductibles. House Staff enrolling in the Choice 10 Plan will be responsible for all premiums (individual and family) and any co-pays and charges not covered by the plan.

Professional Liability Insurance

  • Malpractice insurance coverage provided for all actions occurring while performing residency responsibilities

Life Insurance

  • Term life insurance equal to annual salary

Disability Insurance

  • Provided after three months of employment when disabled, with a maximum of $3,500/month based on salary

Family Leave

  • Up to six weeks for qualifying circumstances


  • Lab coats, surgical scrubs and laundry service provided


  • Meal allowance provided when on call at night
  • Lunch provided during noon-hour conferences


  • Free reserved parking for residents

Social Events / Activities

  • Holiday dance
