Ms. McConnell was born Long Beach, CA and attended USC, CA, and Georgia State University to complete her undergraduate studies. Mary worked in Atlanta as a social worker for several years and then continued her graduate studies at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC, earning her masters degree in healthcare administration. She served as the Business Manager of Perioperative Services in the Charleston Roper Hospital System.

She currently manages both the thoracic surgery and vascular surgery residency programs, is a certified residency coordinator (CTAGME) and Secretary for the national thoracic coordinators association (TS-RACS).
