Orthopaedic Elective Information for Rotating Medical Students

Student Information and Release Authorization

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center offers four-week elective rotations on the Orthopaedic Surgery to fourth-year medical students. These electives combine practical clinical experience with didactic instruction. Didactic instruction includes several formal conferences in which students must participate.

Students work directly with and under the supervision of the residents and members of the Orthopaedic Surgery attending staff. They participate in surgical procedures and treatments on patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting. The work of students is monitored closely by senior residents, members of the Orthopaedic Surgery attending staff, and the chairman of the Department.
