Edward N. Hanley, Jr., MD

Dr. Hanley is Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center. He is Medical Director of Outpatient Clinics and the Telemedicine Program at
Carolinas Medical Center and is Clinical Professor of Surgery/Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of North Carolina.
Dr. Hanley has served as President of the Academic Orthopaedic Society, the Cervical Spine Research Society, the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine
and the American Orthopaedic Association. He is former Chair of the Committee on the Spine for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Hanley’s clinical and
research interests have primarily been in the area of spinal diseases and their treatment. He has spoken extensively on these subjects in the United States and around the
world and has authored over 200 articles on orthopaedic topics.
Jeffrey S. Kneisl, MD

Dr. Kneisl specializes in the treatment of tumors of the musculoskeletal system (oncology). He is head of Musculoskeletal Oncology in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at
Carolinas Medical Center. Dr. Kneisl is a member of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, the Society for Surgical Oncology, the Children's Oncology Group and the International
Society for the Study of Limb Salvage. He specializes in the area of bone and soft tissue tumors and serves as leader of the Bone and Soft Tissue Tumor Group coordinating
multidisciplinary care for patients with these complex conditions.
David R. Mauerhan, MD

Dr. Mauerhan specializes in adult reconstruction orthopaedics with an emphasis on joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee. Since 2002, he has been a faculty
member of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center. Prior to joining CMC, Dr. Mauerhan served as Chief of Surgery in orthopaedics at Zayed
Military Hospital in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He is a former chair of the Board of Councilors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member
of its Board of Directors. He serves on the editorial board of The Journal of Arthroplasty and Orthopaedics Today. Dr. Mauerhan has developed several implants
used in total hip and total knee replacements and has published articles and lectured internationally on these concepts.
Michael J. Bosse, MD

Dr. Bosse specializes in the treatment of traumatic musculoskeletal conditions and late complications resulting from injury. He is President-Elect of the
Orthopaedic Trauma Association and actively involved in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Association. Dr. Bosse is a
leader in clinical research of traumatic injuries of the musculoskeletal system and has published extensively in this area. He directs an active research
program aimed at developing multi-institutional studies on complex injuries. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma and
Orthopaedics Today. In 2003, he received the prestigious Kappa Delta Award for his multi-center study on severe lower extremity injuries.
James F. Kellam, MD

Dr. Kellam specializes in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. He is Vice Chair of and directs the orthopaedic trauma program at Carolinas Medical Center. He
is an Adjunct Professor of Biomechanical Engineering at the University of North Carolina and Clemson University and is on the editorial board of many journals. He is
Past-President of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and the current President of the AO/ASIF Foundation for Fracture Care. Dr. Kellam has spoken extensively
throughout the world on the care of patients with multiple injuries and fractures and has contributed numerous scientific publications in this area.
Stephen H. Sims, MD

Dr. Sims specializes in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and fractures. He teaches surgical techniques for the treatment of such injuries throughout
the world and has served as course director on many occasions for educational activities throughout North America. He is an active member of the American
Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Association and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association. Dr. Sims has contributed extensively to the
scientific literature on the care of injured individuals.
Steven L. Frick, MD

Fellowship: Pediatric Orthopaedics, Children’s Hospital of San Diego
Dr. Frick specializes in the orthopaedic care of pediatric patients. He is Program Director for residency training in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at
Carolinas Medical Center. Dr. Frick is active in the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, is on the Diversity Committee of the American Academy of
Orthopaedic Surgeons and is head of the Leadership Fellows Program for that organization. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the American Orthopaedic
Association. Dr. Frick is a graduate of the Leadership Charlotte Program and was the Carolinas representative to the American Swiss Foundation Young Leaders Conference
in 2005. Dr. Frick specializes in all orthopaedic problems in children and adolescents with particular interests in clubfoot, pediatric foot disorders, hip
disorders, cerebral palsy and fractures.
