MEDICAL STUDENT ELECTIVE ROTATION
The Department of General Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center offers four-week elective rotations on the General Surgery and Trauma Services to third- and
fourth-year medical students through Sandra Dubard, Residency Coordinator in the Surgery Department at CMC or through the University of North Carolina School of
Medicine in Chapel Hill, N.C. These electives combine practical clinical experience with didactic instruction. Didactic instruction includes several weekly formal
conferences in which students must participate. Click here to view the Goals and Objectives for Rotating Medical Students.
Students work directly with and under the supervision of the residents and members of the surgical attending staff. They participate in surgical procedures and treatments
on patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting. The work of students is monitored closely by senior residents, members of the General Surgery attending staff, and
the chairman of the Department.
Students interested in the General Surgery or Trauma Service rotations should contact Sandra or Leanne before returning the Application for Surgery Elective or the
Student Information and Release Authorization forms. Click here to print off the following applications: Student Application or Student Information and Release Authorization.
