MEDICAL STUDENT ROTATIONS

A popular, one-month externship/acting internship is offered to students from within or outside the University of North Carolina system. Fourth-year students have the opportunity to experience family medicine in the inpatient and outpatient settings. For those 4th year students interested in an ambulatory elective, there are opportunities in various clinics including procedures, geriatrics, occupational medicine, urban and rural medicine. For additional details please click on the UNC link. It is an excellent opportunity to get to know this program and its faculty and residents on a first-hand basis.

The residency program is responsible for coordinating and teaching the required family medicine clerkship to a portion of the third-year class of students at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH). These students spend the majority of their time in the offices of community practitioners and return to the residency campus for didactic experiences. Residents are able to participate in this educational process to the extent that they are interested.

At Carolinas Medical Center, residents are actively involved in the education of the third and fourth-year medical students, primarily from UNC-CH, but also from other medical schools across the country as they rotate through the pediatrics, internal medicine, OB/GYN, emergency medicine and surgery services.

For information call 704-446-7700 and ask for the medical student coordinator.
