MEDICAL CENTER PRE-DOCTORAL CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY INTERNSHIP
This internship provides a one-year full-time training in clinical
psychology. The internship is a member of the Association of Psychology
Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC), and has been accredited
by the American Psychological Association in Clinical Psychology.
Behavioral Health Center - Randolph in Charlotte, North Carolina provides comprehensive community
mental health services to the residents of Mecklenburg County. Major service components include:
- child, adolescent and adult inpatient programs
- child and adolescent intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization
- child, adolescent, and adult Outpatient clinic
- medication clinic
- psychiatric emergency services
- mental health outreach programs in primary care settings and schools
The primary training setting for interns is within Adult Services (6 months) and Child/Adolescent
Services (6 months). Both inpatient/partial hospital and outpatient settings are included.
Secondary rotations within school-based mental health services are possible.
All interns will complete a clinical rotation in the Psychiatric Emergency Department.
Staffed by a full-time psychiatrist and nursing staff, the Emergency Department provides triage,
evaluation, emergency treatment and referral for a wide range of psychiatric/emotional
disorders in children, adolescents and adults.
The intern will be assigned a primary clinical supervisor, although
they will have other senior clinicians who provide additional supervision
for minor rotations. Each intern will be attached to a multidisciplinary
treatment team, consisting of a psychiatrist, psychologist,
clinical social workers and master's level psychotherapists. The
treatment team provides opportunities for clinical case staffing
and refinements of both diagnostic and treatment formulations.
