Carolinas Medical Center is offering a comprehensive Summer Teen Volunteer Program in 2016 for high school students ages 15-18. The program’s focus is to provide students with education and experience in a hospital setting through volunteer service and informative learning sessions. Volunteers provide non-clinical support, but there are a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the hospital from delivering sterile equipment to various units, providing directions and/or escorting patients and visitors, assisting with clerical work, playing the lobby piano, and more.

Educational learning sessions give students the opportunity to connect with health care professionals and explore a broad variety of hospital specialties.

Steps to becoming a teen volunteer:
    1. Applications are accepted Jan. 1-March 1, 2016. No late applications will be accepted. Each application includes two teacher references and an essay. We also require a background check of all applicants.
    2. Acceptable applicants will be notified and scheduled for interviews March 1 through April 1.
    3. If selected, you will attend a three-hour orientation before volunteering in the hospital.
    4. Volunteers will need health clearance from Teammate Health and will be required to present a copy of their vaccinations, a health history form, and documentation of the first of two TB skin tests before clearance will be given.
