Palliative Care

Palliative care is a medical specialty for patients with a prolonged or life-threatening illness. It differs from hospice care in that palliative care patients are in treatment to halt or cure their diseases.

The benefits of palliative care include pain management, symptom relief, and counseling. The goal is to meet the unique needs of seriously ill patients and support the patients and families during difficult times.

Patients are referred to palliative care through their primary physician. Carolinas HealthCare System partners with Carolinas Palliative Care & Hospice Group to offer this service.
