What is robotic surgery?
Learn why our physicians are committed to bringing even more advanced care to you through robotic surgery.
As part of our commitment to excellent patient care, physicians at CMC-Pineville have adopted the da Vinci surgery for a range of gynecologic surgeries, including hysterectomy and myomectomy. Our surgical staff has undergone extensive training on this remarkable technology to ensure that you receive the advanced, personalized care you deserve.
Facing a hysterectomy?
This is not your mother's hysterectomy. Today, we can treat a range of gynecologic conditions - from chronic pelvic pain to abnormal bleeding - with da Vinci hysterectomy. This procedure requires only a few small incisions, so you can get back to life faster - without the usual recovery following major surgery.
For most patients, da Vinci hysterectomy can offer numerous potential benefits over traditional approaches, particularly when performing more complex procedures.
Potential benefits include
- Significantly less pain
- Less blood loss
- Fewer complications
- Less scarring
- A shorter hospital stay
- A faster return to normal daily activities
da Vinci hysterectomy also allows your surgeon to have a magnified view of your body, which is especially critical when working around delicate and confined areas, like the bladder. This means that surgeons have a distinct advantage when performing a complex hysterectomy involving adhesions from prior pelvic surgery, non-localized cancer or an abdominal hysterectomy.
A significant new study confirms the potential benefits women can gain by having the type of da Vinci® hysterectomy that is now offered at CMC-Pineville.
In this study comparing surgical outcomes from a total laparoscopic hysterectomy to a robotically assisted hysterectomy, physicians analyzed the outcomes for 100 patients treated prior to the introduction of the da Vinci system into their practice v. 100 after this treatment option was available. The authors found that, without da Vinci, the surgeons more frequently had to "open up" patients during a minimally invasive surgery.
Also in this study, using da Vinci Surgery reduced the length of the surgery, reduced blood loss by half and significantly shortened length of stay in the hospital, from 1.6 to one day.
1 in 3 women will face hysterectomy - are you one of them?
For your mother's generation, hysterectomy typically meant a painful recovery and potential complications. At CMC-Pineville, we have set out to change the experience of gynecologic surgery with our investment in the most advanced technology for minimally invasive surgery - da Vinci surgery.
