Vascular disease affects the arteries that carry oxygenated blood to all areas of the body, as well as veins that return blood to the heart. This includes the aorta that feeds the abdomen and legs, and the carotid arteries that feed the brain, as well as many smaller vessels. Vascular disease can also create wounds caused by the lack of blood supply to lower legs and feet.
