Prior to your surgery, you may receive a call from a nurse who will ask about your medical history and offer any necessary instructions, including what time you should arrive. If you do not receive a phone call or the nurse does not give you an arrival time, please call your physician's office and ask what time you are expected to arrive.
If you would like to visit One Day Surgery in advance of your procedure, please call our Patient/Family Liaison at 704-355-9424 to arrange a visit.

If you need to cancel your surgery appointment, please call your doctor as soon as possible.
If a pre-surgery appointment is made for you at the Pre-Anesthesia Clinic, it is located on the first floor of Carolinas Medical Center at 1000 Blythe Blvd. You may park in the parking deck to the left of the hospital and enter into the main lobby. The clinic is on the left by the gift shop.
Please check with your doctor to confirm how late you can have solid food or fluids before surgery. If you have diabetes, special instructions may be provided.
Arriving on time is very important. Please allow plenty of time for heavy traffic or unexpected delays. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and flat shoes. Please do not wear makeup, contact lenses or jewelry. Bring any forms or records your doctor has given you concerning your surgery or postsurgical care. Children may bring a favorite toy or blanket.
When you arrive at One Day Surgery, check in at the registration desk where your information will be verified and your parking ticket will be validated. Then, you will check in with our receptionist who will complete your registration process.
If you are going home after surgery, a responsible adult, 18 years of age or older, must accompany you to drive you home.
The time you and your family spend in One Day Surgery must allow for the preparation before surgery, the surgical procedure and the recovery time. For example, if your doctor tells you the surgery will take one hour, you should expect to be in the department at least four or five hours. While you are here, we will do everything we can to make your stay with us pleasant.
After your surgical procedure is completed, you may be given snacks and fluids. Your family will be allowed to visit in the Phase II recovery area. Parents of children who are undergoing surgery are invited to attend to them in the Phase I recovery room.
After recovery, your medical team will give you any needed prescriptions and written home care instructions. For your convenience, CMC Rx retail pharmacy, located on the second floor of Medical Center Plaza, is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Thank you for choosing Carolinas Medical Center One Day Surgery. Our goal is to provide you with safe and excellent care.
