Congestive Heart Failure

The Congestive Heart Failure Clinic at CMC-NorthEast, in Concord, NC, is a special division of cardiac rehabilitation at the Health and Fitness Institute. Outpatient congestive heart failure (CHF) patients can participate in specialized exercise and education programs to develop a healthy lifestyle that will accommodate the special needs of such patients. By utilizing the expertise of the professionals at the Congestive Heart Failure Clinic, patients will reduce the readmission of congestive heart failure and increase their quality of life.]

The clinic's goal with this educational program is to help individuals and their family better control their CHF. The program lasts four weeks. Eight sessions are held from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Session topics include:

  • Anatomy of the heart
  • Signs and symptoms of CHF
  • Risk factors for CHF
  • Medications
  • Energy conservation
  • Exercise and activity
  • Stress management
  • Review and medical management

The Congestive Heart Failure Clinic enables individuals and their families to better understand CHF through education. This knowledge will hopefully enable them to enhance their quality of life.
