Acute and Progressive Coronary Care

Acute Coronary Care

Acute coronary care refers to the care of patients with heart attacks, chest pain of other cardiac conditions requiring continuous monitoring. CMC-NorthEast's Acute Coronary Care Unit in Concord, NC provides care for compromised cardiac patients in need of acute care and monitoring. The ACCU nursing staff has received national recognition for compassionate care by the Advance for Nurses magazine as the third "Best Nursing Staff" in the Carolinas/Georgia Region. The nursing staff focuses on holistic care for each patient and their families while in the ACCU to promote healing and decrease anxiety.

The ACCU serves patients with acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), unstable angina, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure or pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs), cardiogenic shock, lethal cardiac dysrhythmias (irregular heartbeat), cardiothoracic and vascular surgeries, complicated post cardiac surgeries and complicated post cardiac procedures.

Progressive Coronary Care

The Progressive Coronary Care Unit (PCCU) is a 28-bed unit which specializes in service to patients requiring cardiac monitoring. Nurses monitor a patient's heart rhythms, document the readings and take appropriate measures for patient care. Administering appropriate medical interventions including medicines and postoperative care, nurses care for patients 24 hours a day.

The PCCU provides compassionate care to patients with hemodynamically stable myocardial infarctions (heart attacks), unstable and stable angina, congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathy, cardiac dysrthymias (irregular heartbeat,) syncope (fainting), non-acute hypertensive disease (high blood pressure), and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) associated with cardiac compromise. PCCU specializes in service to patients requiring cardiac monitoring by telemetry. Nurses monitor a patient's heart rhythm, interpret and document the readings and take appropriate measures for patient care.

PCCU also provides ongoing educational material and counseling regarding cardiac disease, medications and postoperative care throughout the patient's hospital stay and prior to the patient's discharge from the care of PCCU nursing staff.
