Chronic Lung Diseases and Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Lung Disease Patient and PhysicianFor those dealing with chronic lung disease, shortness of breath is the most disabling symptom. Using a multidisciplinary approach, the goal is to increase the patient's functional capacity and ability to participate in everyday activities.

Pulmonary rehabilitation can improve functional capacity so that patients can increase their activity level. Using a combination of health education and exercise therapies, patients at The Lung Center can increase their aerobic tolerance for exercise and improve muscle endurance, flexibility and strength.

Pulmonary rehabilitation involves:

  • Health education
  • Exercise therapies
  • Smoking cessation (if applicable)
  • Medication review
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Psychological assessment
