Carolinas HealthCare System Kannapolis Emergency Department Opens For Patients

Public can take tours and meet staff at an open house on Saturday, January 14

Carolinas HealthCare System Kannapolis Emergency Department, a facility of Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast, Cabarrus County's first free-standing emergency department, will open for patients on Monday, Jan. 16 at 7 a.m.

Carolinas HealthCare System Kannapolis Emergency Department, the third healthcare pavilion developed by Carolinas HealthCare System, is at 2711 Lane St., just off I-85 at Exit 63.

"We are proud to open this innovative facility for the people of Cabarrus County and south Rowan County," said Phyllis Wingate, President of Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast.  "Having a 24-hour emergency department conveniently located will be of tremendous benefit to the families, businesses and schools in the area, and we intend to deliver the same level of care our patients have come to expect from Carolinas HealthCare System.

"Free-standing emergency departments have proven their value and benefit for the care of patients all over the country," Wingate said.  "Our success with healthcare pavilions in Steele Creek and Waxhaw has shown patients enthusiastically respond to the personal service they receive at these facilities."

Carolinas HealthCare System Kannapolis Emergency Department operates as an extension of Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast in Concord.  Its 26,385 square feet includes:

  • 10 treatment rooms providing around the clock emergency care from physicians who are board certified in emergency medicine
  • Two observation beds for patients who need additional examination and treatment
  • Diagnostic imaging including a CT scanner, ultrasound and digital X-ray
  • Complete laboratory services
  • Rapid triage, with bedside registration for convenience and privacy
  • Emergency transportation by ambulance for critically ill or injured patients
  • Electronic medical records to enhance patient privacy and convenience.

An open house for the public will be held Saturday, January 14 from noon to 3 p.m.  Visitors can tour the facility, meet the physicians and staff, and enjoy free food, prizes and activities for children.  Because of the anticipated crowds, parking for the public open house will be provided at Fieldcrest-Cannon Stadium (home of the Kannapolis Intimidators), with free shuttle service to and from Carolinas HealthCare System Kannapolis Emergency Department.

Carolinas HealthCare System opened its first healthcare pavilion on Nov. 16, 2009 in southwestern Mecklenburg County and last month opened Carolinas HealthCare System Waxhaw in western Union County.  Another healthcare pavilion will open in Huntersville in the spring of 2012.  Plans are underway for a fifth healthcare pavilion in Harrisburg.
