Carolinas HealthCare System

Corporate Community Benefit Department

The Corporate Community Benefit Department coordinates Carolinas HealthCare System's involvement in projects that benefit the community. Here is a brief description of some of its main projects:

Annual Playground Build

Carolinas HealthCare System, in partnership with area businesses, has been the leader in building playgrounds for needy schools for many years.

CHS Giving Campaign

Through the annual Giving Campaign, CHS employees generously support Children's Miracle Network, United Way and the revised Arts & Culture campaign, which supports arts councils in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, and Lincoln counties in North Carolina.

Healthy Kids Club

In partnership with Bruns Avenue Elementary, in Charlotte, North Carolina, fourth and fifth grade girls are paired with CHS women leaders in a program designed to impact healthy lifestyle choices through one-on-one mentoring relationships and group education.

Heart of a Champion

Physician volunteers and other employee volunteers provide comprehensive heart health screenings to high school athletes from Mecklenburg and neighboring counties at Heart of a Champion, with special focus on identifying potentially fatal heart conditions. More than 1,000 students are screened annually.

Holiday Cheer

CHS Corporate Community Benefit coordinates holiday giving activities so that employee efforts have the greatest impact. More than 500 employees volunteer annually to serve meals, plan special events, and distribute gifts to children, seniors, and homeless over the holidays impacting the lives of thousands of families throughout Mecklenburg and surrounding counties.

Corporate Community Benefit coordinates tutoring opportunities between local schools and employees. This program not only helps the children with their educational needs, but it also helps them have a relationship with an adult. The standard tutor volunteer spends 45 minutes once a week with a student at school throughout the school year. In addition to providing tutors, this program also links volunteers with students who would benefit from email or lunch buddies.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Corporate Community Benefit offers ongoing opportunities for all Carolinas HealthCare System employees and family members to volunteer in community programs, projects or activities. Corporate Community Benefit will try to match everyone with opportunities that meet personal interests and availability. The needs are great and so are the rewards.
