Stefanie Austin Stefanie Austin
Assistant Vice President
Carolinas Medical Center - NorthEast Physician Network

Stefanie is an assistant vice president for CMC-NorthEast Physician Network. She implements and monitors clinical initiatives across the network for primary, adult and senior care practices. Her responsibilities also include regulatory compliance, patient safety, service excellence, patient satisfaction and privacy, facility compliance, disease management and clinical documentation.

“Carolinas HealthCare Systems (CHS) core values are hardwired into meetings, day-to-day operations and employee education,” says Stefanie. “This has allowed me to grow as a leader and to mentor my CHS teammates.”

Stefanie is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Medical Group Management Association. She is also a member of the National Council for Negro Women and the Women’s Ministry Leader in her church.

Stefanie received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of LaVerne in Pomona, California and her Master of Business Administration in Health Care Management from the University of Phoenix in Charlotte.

Stefanie is the mother of three daughters.

Sharon Easterling Sharon Easterling
Assistant Vice President
Recovery Audit Contractor and Medical Necessity Departments
Carolinas HealthCare System

Sharon Easterling, MHA, RHIA, CCS, is assistant vice president for Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS) Recovery Audit Contractor (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) mandated program) and Medical Necessity Departments.

Sharon is a speaker and facilitator for the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). She has published in professional journals and been honored with the NCHIMA Charlotte Region Award and the CHS Pioneer Award.

“CHS teammates care about their community and embrace our need for diversity,” Sharon says. “Much of that comes from our mission and feeling you are in accord with leadership to make great things happen.”

Sharon is a board member of the Health Information and Technology Program at Central Piedmont Community College.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina and a Master of Health Administration from Pfeiffer University in Charlotte.

Sharon and husband Eric have two daughters, Tiana and Deandra.

G. Patrick Griffin G. Patrick Griffin
Vice President, Patient Financial Services – Central Business Office
Carolinas HealthCare System

G. Patrick Griffin is vice president for Patient Financial Services at the Central Business Office of Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS). He manages the physician billing operations for more than 1,500 providers and for a multi-specialty physician network of hospital- and community-based clinics and private practices.

In 2007, Ernst & Young recognized his Denial Management department among the top three in the nation. In 2010, Patrick was a 2010 CHS Pinnacle Top 50 Nominee. He is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, a current board member for MW United, and a member of Toastmasters International.

“CHS has been a pioneer in Charlotte, fostering commitment to diversity and inclusion,” Patrick says. “An example of this is the Annual Diversity Symposium it hosts and the fact that CHS is very involved in the communities that it serves through volunteerism, advocacy, and charitable giving.”

Patrick has a Master of Business Administration degree from Webster University in St. Louis and a Bachelor of Science in Business from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC.

A native of Greenville, SC, Patrick is married to Makeisha and they have two children: Keyauna and Jalen.

Peggy Davis Harris Peggy Davis Harris
Assistant Vice President, Diversity & Inclusion
Carolinas HealthCare System

Peggy Harris is the assistant vice president of Diversity & Inclusion at Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS). She is responsible for developing and supporting the organization's diversity and inclusion strategy and overseeing affirmative action compliance.

Under her leadership, the CHS Diversity Advisory Committee and the annual Competitive Edge Symposium have inspired a shared understanding of an organizational culture of inclusion. “I have watched CHS develop ‘best of class’ organizational practices that help to create a culture of sustained inclusion”, says Peggy.

Peggy received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida State University and a Master of Healthcare Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill. She is a graduate of Leadership Charlotte, a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a past recipient of the Diversity in Business Award. She is also a member of the Board of Advisors of the Diversity Forum.

Peggy and husband Harvey are the proud parents of four daughters.

Cassandra J. Lowery Cassandra J. Lowery
Assistant Vice President, Corporate Patient Access
Carolinas Medical Center and Levine Children's Hospital

As assistant vice president for Corporate Patient Access at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC), Cassandra J. Lowery manages patient access operations at CMC and Levine Children’s Hospital. Her department services an average of 700 patients a day.

Our goal is to promote a positive hospital experience to all by adhering to our core values of caring, commitment, integrity and teamwork,” she says.

Cassandra started in 1988 as a claims processor. Along the way, she earned her college degree and took advantage of educational classes offered at CMC. “I did not have a college degree, but my management team encouraged me,” Cassandra says.

Cassandra received her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Strayer University in 2007. She is a member of the North Carolina Association of Healthcare Access Management and Certified Access Manager.

Cassandra is married to Marshall, and they have six children: Tormeko, Markeeyah, Marshall, Todd, Keisha and Marcia.

Les Maginley Les Maginley
Assistant Vice President of Facilities Management Group

Les Maginley is assistant vice president of the Facilities Management Group for Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS). In this position, he provides leadership and strategic direction for corporate security, environmental services and nutrition services.

Les has made it a personal mission to embrace and enhance the CHS culture of diversity and inclusion in his two-year tenure. The CHS core values were already a part of my fabric, so weaving them in with my team was an easy transition," he says. Not surprisingly his favorite quote is, “Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude”.

Les received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Central Missouri State and a Master of Business Administration from Ohio Dominican University. He is a member of the National Black MBA Association, a former graduate of Leadership Columbus and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.

Les is married with three children and enjoys working out, helping others and anything involving his children.

Genell Moore Genell Moore
Vice President, Human Resources
Carolinas HealthCare System

Genell Moore is vice president of Human Resources at Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS). In her role, she has administrative oversight and strategic planning responsibilities for compensation, benefits, HR operations, workers' compensation and employee health. She also provides HR leadership for acquisitions.

She is a member of the Society of Human Resources Management and the United Way of Central Carolinas Human Resources Committee. Genell is passionate about mentoring emerging women leaders; she co-founded the CHS Mentoring Program for Women on the Road to Success. She is also a graduate of Leadership Charlotte.

“In my 28 years at CHS, I have seen the organization transition from talking about diversity to embracing diversity and inclusion in everything we do. It is not simply a program; it defines who we are,” Genell says.

Genell received a Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC.

Genell is married and has one child and one grandchild.

Debra Plousha Moore Debra Plousha Moore
Senior Vice President, Human Resources

Debra Plousha Moore is Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Carolinas Healthcare System (CHS) where she oversees recruitment, compensation, benefits, education, employee development and diversity inclusion at the third largest non-profit healthcare system in the United States.

With more than 48,000 employees working in 33 affiliated hospitals in North and South Carolina, CHS is among the region's largest employers. About 400,000 employment inquiries come in to CHS each year, earning it a reputation as a highly sought after place to work.

This reputation is no accident. Plousha Moore is devoted to making CHS the employer of choice in Charlotte.

"People spend their best waking hours of the day at work," says Plousha Moore. "We take care of people, their families and communities, so it's important for CHS to provide an experience to our employees that engages them in this work and builds their enthusiasm for being healthcare professionals."

A San Francisco native, Moore earned her bachelor's degree from San Francisco State University and her master's from the University of Dayton (Ohio).

As a member of The Links, Inc., a national organization of professional women of color, Plousha Moore has joined the fight to combat childhood obesity. She recently joined the board of trustees for the Urban Ministry Center, an interfaith organization in Charlotte that serves the poor and homeless.

Angela Sanford Angela Sanford
Assistant Vice President, Research Finance
Carolinas HealthCare System

As the assistant vice president of Research Finance at Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS), Angela manages finances for the research grants and contracts awarded to CHS. Prior to moving to Charlotte four years ago, she worked in a similar role for the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

Angela is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, the American College of Healthcare Executives, the National Association of Health Services Executives, the National Council of University Research Administrators and the North Carolina Society of Research Administrators.

As a Healthy Kids Club volunteer through the CHS LiveWELL program, Angela mentors a fourth grade girl at Bruns Elementary. To connect with students on their level, Angela and her fellow CHS mentors play hopscotch and hoola-hoop with their mentees while discussing nutritious food choices.

Angela holds a Bachelor's degree in Management and Accounting from Northwood University in Midland, Michigan and a Master of Business Administration from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.

Angela has a son, daughter, and one granddaughter.

Phyllis Wingate-Jones Phyllis Wingate
Division President
Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast

Phyllis Wingate is division president for Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast and has responsibilities for CMC-University and CMC-Randolph.

For eight years, she has held leadership roles with Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS), including chief operating officer at Carolinas Medical Center.

“CHS was thoughtful about diversity and inclusion when I came aboard in 2003,” says Phyllis. “And there is growing appreciation that diversity is a business imperative and healthy for our CHS culture.”

A Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, Phyllis serves on the American Hospital Association President’s Forum for Health Systems Leaders and the Policy Development Committee for the North Carolina Hospital Association. She previously served on the AHA Board of Directors and its Executive Committee. Locally, she lends her leadership talents to the Cabarrus Economic Development Corp. Board and the McColl Center for Visual Art.

Previously she was a Board Commissioner for the Joint Commission of Healthcare Organizations.

Phyllis received her Bachelor of Science degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and her Master of Health Administration degree from Virginia Commonwealth University (Medical College of Virginia).
