Carolinas Simulation Center’s research team conducts both basic and applied research using a variety of techniques. Through a multidisciplinary approach, we seek to advance research in simulation, education, and patient safety. Our team includes expertise in human factors and healthcare communication and has access to a variety of clinical subspecialties and patient care settings.
The purpose of this project is to use standardized patient encounters to determine whether physician bias towards patients of varying socioeconomic status exists, and how these biases may impact decision making, treatment, and patient outcomes.
As part of a multidisciplinary collaboration, we are conducting research focused on improving resident education and practices around patient handoffs.
