Imagine riding a bike 180 miles or more across the Carolinas, in just three days.
Now, imagine pedaling that distance using only your arms or without sight. This is what a group of extraordinary cyclists set out to do annually.
Cycle to the Sea is a unique ride that raises funds and awareness for the Adaptive Sports and Adventures Program (ASAP) at Carolinas HealthCare System's Carolinas Rehabilitation. This bike ride is held every year and involves athletes with physical disabilities who cycle on handcycles and/or tandem bikes. Each rider must obtain individual pledges in order to participate.
Our Cycle to the Sea rides include two events, one in Spring and the Fall:
Cycle to the Sea- North Myrtle Beach is held each spring and is 180 miles, 60 miles a day for 3 days. In addition to the April event, ASAP is offering another cycling experience in October of 2015.
Cycle to the Sea - Charleston, suited for the experienced cyclist, will be held each fall and is 240 miles, 80 miles a day for 3 days.
These events are the main fundraisers for ASAP and allow us to continue to offer a variety of programs for youth and adults with physical challenges in the Charlotte community and surrounding areas at little or no cost to the participants.
- Wheelchair tennis
- Quad rugby
- Snow skiing
- Water skiing
ASAP offers the chance to soar across the water and ski across mountains and a chance to compete and win. It is an opportunity to be a part of a group that helps athletes grow in sport, spirit and confidence.
Please consider helping those involved to reach their goals and soar to new heights.
