A new virtual visit platform that gives patients access care any time of day was recently rolled out to provide live, immediate and private access to a medical provider via a secured-camera-enabled tablet smartphone or computer. Carolinas HealthCare System Virtual Visit is now available to help provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. No appointment is necessary.

“People have busy lives, and they are looking for providers to make high quality care available when and where it’s needed,” said Charles Rich, MD, medical director of Carolinas HealthCare System’s HEALTHWORKS Division and clinical champion for Virtual Visit. “What makes our service so unique is each virtual visits is fully integrated as each visit is added to a patient’s electronic medical record for seamless connection to follow-up care.”

Virtual Visit addresses a range of conditions, including:

  • Seasonal allergies, bronchitis and flu
  • Cold, cough, sinus and upper respiratory infections
  • Conjunctivitis or pink eye
  • Skin conditions

Virtual Visit is available to patients:

  • With an established Carolinas HealthCare System primary care provider (which includes family medicine, internal medicine, OB/GYN, pediatrics or at an employer on-site clinic operated by the System)
  • Who are physically located in North Carolina at the time of care
  • With an Internet connection
  • And with a device capable of recording and playing video

Patients are asked to answer a few short questions before being connected with a provider. Appointments typically last 10 minutes. Unfortunately, dependents ages 13 through 17 are not eligible to participate at this time.

Patients may access the virtual visit at CarolinasHealthCare.org/VirtualVisit, or download the free mobile app from their device’s mobile app store by searching for Carolinas HealthCare Virtual Visit.
