Humanitarian Use Device: Synapse NeuRx Diaphragm Pacing System
Brief Description  
A device which allows patients, 18 years of age and older, to breathe without the assistance of a mechanical ventilator for at least 4 continuous hours a day. The device electrically stimulates the diaphragm and maintains adequate ventilation for patients with upper motor neuron respiratory paralysis (C1-C2), related to spinal cord injury, whose remaining Phrenic nerve, lung and diaphragm functions are normal. Who may be Eligible  
Males or females 18 years and older Stable high spinal cord injury which requiring a respirator to breathe Diaphragm must still be stimulatable
spinal cord injury¸ ventilator dependent
