Surgeon Receives National Recognition for Leadership in Orthopedics

Joshua C. Patt, MD, MPH, orthopedic surgeon at Carolinas HealthCare System’s Carolinas Medical Center, is one of 10 surgeons named to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) 2014-2015 Leadership Fellows Program. The prestigious one-year program helps to empower and create future AAOS leaders who have previous leadership or volunteer experience in the orthopedic field.

“Being identified by this highly regarded organization as a future leader is an honor,” said Dr. Patt. “I look forward to developing and enhancing my personal leadership skills through this program, as a result of gaining insight from my peers and assigned mentor, all of whom are already recognized as established leaders in the orthopedic field.”

In addition to being a leader in his clinical field, Dr. Patt also serves as the residency program director for the orthopedic surgery residency program at Carolinas Medical Center. His primary research interests are clinical outcomes in oncology, spinal tumors and geriatric hip fracture outcomes. He has published 11 peer-reviewed journal articles and multiple book chapters. Additionally, Dr. Patt has delivered numerous scientific presentations at both regional and national meetings.

Carolinas Medical Center is only one of five centers in the nation with an orthopedic surgeon who is trained in complex spinal and musculoskeletal oncology.
