CHS Physician Elected to National Cardiology Position
December 12, 2012
B. Hadley Wilson, MD, Interventional Cardiologist and Chief of Adult Cardiology at Carolinas HealthCare System’s Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute has been elected as the Governor for the American College of Cardiology’s North Carolina Chapter. Dr. Wilson will also serve on the ACC’s Board of Governors, the grassroots governing body of the College.
In this three year role, Dr. Wilson will have responsibility for representing the needs and opinions of the North Carolina members of the College, and implement national initiatives of the ACC on the state level where appropriate. He will be the primary contact for state issues and provide representation on committees and tasks forces, make collective recommendations to the national leadership and mentor future leaders of the organization.
“It is an honor to be elected to this position at the ACC, and to represent the many talented colleagues in our North Carolina Chapter,” said Dr. Wilson. “I look forward to being a liaison to the national leadership team, bringing forth ideas and highlighting the work demonstrated by the cardiovascular community in our state.”
Dr. Wilson has been involved in a number of state and national initiatives, participating in planning sessions and state-wide research, around a regionalized approach to reduce treatment times for heart attack patients. Carolinas HealthCare System is leading the nation in this area through its successful Chest Pain Network. With collaboration among EMS, emergency medicine physicians, and cardiologists at nine accredited hospitals – the network has helped save the lives of many patients – and with some of the nation’s fastest times and best outcomes.
The healthcare system is also a part of the North Carolina RACE (Reperfusion of Acute Myocardial Infarction in North Carolina Emergency Departments) initiative, a state-wide approach to combat gaps in collaboration and processes among healthcare systems. CHS and efforts from the entire state to streamline care across the region are being duplicated across the nation.
“Dr. Wilson’s dedication to his role as a cardiologist and engagement with his physician and clinical peers demonstrates exactly why he is well-positioned to serve in this role as the ACC’s North Carolina Governor,” said Paul G. Colavita, President of CHS’s Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute. “I have no doubt that our cardiovascular community will be well represented, and I personally look forward to our continued involvement in such a prestigious medical society.”
With his attendance at the ACC 2013 Annual Scientific Sessions, Dr. Wilson will officially assume the role of governor-elect through March of 2014, and from then will serve as ACC Governor for North Carolina from 2014 to 2017.
