Joshua Patt, MD, MPH, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in musculoskeletal oncology and spine surgery at Carolinas HealthCare System’s Carolinas Medical Center, is one of ten surgeons named to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) 2014-2015 Leadership Fellows Program.
The prestigious one-year program serves to empower and create future AAOS leaders who have previous leadership or volunteer experience in the orthopedic field.
“I look forward to developing and enhancing my personal leadership skills through this program, as a result of gaining insight from my peers in this program and from my assigned mentor who is already recognized as an established leader in the orthopedic field,” said Dr. Patt. “Being identified by this highly regarded organization as a future leader is an honor, and I am excited for the opportunity that lies ahead.”
Carolinas Medical Center is only one of five centers in the nation with an orthopedic surgeon who is trained in complex spinal and musculoskeletal oncology.
In addition to being a leader in his clinical filed, Dr. Patt also serves as the residency program director for the orthopedic surgery residency program. His primary research interests are clinical outcomes in oncology, spinal tumors and geriatric hip fracture outcomes, and he has published eleven peer reviewed journal articles and multiple book chapters in addition to giving scientific presentations at both regional and national meetings.
