Prediabetes is a condition that means you have a high likelihood of developing Type 2 diabetes, a disease that is a leading cause of heart disease, blindness and stroke. Physicians diagnose prediabetes and diabetes by measuring the amount of sugar in the blood. This can be done with a simple blood test called an A1C.
So how do you know if you need to get an A1C test? Carolinas HealthCare System has a 30-second prediabetes risk assessment on its website that lets you know if you are at risk. If your score indicates you are at risk, then you will be given ideas about what steps to take next.
Take the risk assessment test by following this link: CarolinasHealthCare.org/Diabetes
It is part of Carolinas HealthCare System’s initiative called the “Pre-D Challenge,” which seeks to engage the community in the fight against diabetes.
