It used to be that if you needed hip, knee or shoulder replacement surgery, you’d have to travel to a larger city. Not anymore. The service is now offered by Carolinas HealthCare System in towns and cities across the Carolinas, including Lincolnton and Denver, NC.
CMC-Orthopaedic Surgery has performed joint replacement surgeries in the Lincoln and Catawba counties for several years. The practice was recognized by the Joint Commission in 2013.
Part of the success of the program has been the preoperative information seminars hosted by the practice. Ted Parcel, MD, of CMC-Orthopaedic Surgery, said the seminars help make patient stays shorter and overall satisfaction rates higher.
One of Dr. Parcel’s patients was recently profiled in the Denver Weekly. Ronnie Cornwell, a 65-year-old Lincoln County resident, said the surgery has made a big difference in his life.
From the Denver Weekly:
Cornwell had his hip replaced in November 2012, his left knee replaced in February and his right knee replaced in September.
“I struggled to walk,” he said of what it was like before his surgeries. “I couldn’t get up and down the stairs. Now, I have no pain in either knee … I do anything I want to.”
