From social media websites to apps on smart phones, technology is changing the way expectant mothers experience their pregnancies. New parents are well researched and expect more from what will be one of the most meaningful times of their lives.
Carolinas HealthCare System is building relationships with these modern moms-to-be. Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville, for example, has not only doubled the size of its maternity center to provide greater access to the South Charlotte area, it is partnering with new mothers to make sure all their needs are met.
A recent article in Ballantyne Magazine highlights the trends in pregnancies in an area of the region that is seeing a small baby boom:
“In 2011, CMC-Pineville nearly doubled the footprint of its maternity center, adding birthing suites, Murphy beds for mom’s partner and a level-three intensive care nursery within the maternity center. ‘When parents come in and have special requests, we know they have done their homework and we do all we can to accommodate their requests’ says [Deborah] Johnson. ‘It’s not very often that they have an expectation that we can’t meet.’”
