Carolinas HealthCare System is sponsoring the 12th annual Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas, which will be held from Thursday, June 13 to Sunday, June 16 at Independence Park. The event's festivities include African dancing and drumming, music from a variety of local and regional acts, spoken word performances, art, food and vendors.
On June 15, at 2:30 p.m. Kris Gaston, MD, of Levine Cancer Institute will speak to festival-goers about prostate health, screening, prevention and education. Dr. Gaston will also be available for questions following the talk. African American men have the highest incidence rate for prostate cancer in the United States and are more than twice as likely as white men to die of the disease.
