Carolinas HealthCare System measures success in many ways, with two important metrics being patient experience and patient safety. Our teams have been recognized as leaders in both areas at care environments across the System, including hospitals, outpatient departments and free-standing care settings.
Recently, the Professional Research Consultants (PRC) and Health Grades announced leading healthcare organizations nationwide that are setting the bar for patient safety and patient experience. Carolinas HealthCare System received more than 270 awards in these areas.
PRC awards recognize organizations that significantly improve the patient experience and meet or exceed the 75th, 90th and 100th percentile rankings based on patient perception of overall quality of care. In 2012, Carolinas HealthCare System providers earned 24 Achievement Awards for improvement in patient experience, 17 Top Performer Awards for reaching or exceeding the 75th percentile, 17 Four Star Awards for reaching or exceeding the 90th percentile, and 213 Five Star Awards for reaching or exceeding the 100th percentile.
Using HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) patient survey data released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services between April 2011 and March 2012, Health Grades awarded hospitals across the nation that provided an outstanding patient experience and patient safety.
Less than 15 percent of hospitals nationwide were chosen for the Health Grades Patient Experience Award, and at Carolinas HealthCare System these include Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy, Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast, Carolinas Medical Center-University, Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Columbus Regional Healthcare System and Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital. Health Grades Patient Safety Excellence Awards were presented to a group of hospitals that ranked in the top 10 percent nationwide for excellence in safeguarding patients from serious, potentially preventable complications during their hospital stay. Congratulations to Carolinas Medical Center, AnMed Health and Roper Hospital for receiving the award.
