Carolinas HealthCare System is hosting its first Men’s Diversity Health Awareness Day Saturday, June 8 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte.
The free event, which is a collaboration with the church, lasts from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m and is open to the public.
Attendees can participate in health screenings (blood pressure, glucose and more) and speak with experts about health and wellness.
There will also be an opportunity to meet the keynote speaker, Dr. Ian Smith, best known for his appearance on VH1 Celebrity Fit Club series, The View and NBC News, and author of the best-selling book The Fat Smash Diet.
Through events like Men’s Diversity Health Awareness Day, Carolinas HealthCare System aims to meet the needs of community members of all backgrounds, in particular minority men, who can encounter a greater number of challenges when it comes to treating chronic diseases.
“Health education and wellness activities are vital to building and sustaining strong communities,” said Patrick Griffin, Vice President at Carolinas HealthCare System. “We want community members to know that Carolinas HealthCare System is concerned about their well-being and that we strive to provide excellent care, regardless of ability pay.”
