Dr. Saha Receives Volunteerism and Community Service Award - Archived

The NC Chapter of the American College of Physicians awarded its 2013 Volunteerism and Community Service Award to Animita Saha, MD, FACP at the 2013 Annual Scientific Session held in February.

Dr. Saha serves as Medical Director of the Myers Park Internal Medicine Clinic and is on the faculty of the Department of Internal Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center. Additionally, she is Assistant Medical Director, Chronic Care, of Community Care Partners of Greater Mecklenburg.

Recipients are nominated by their peers and selected annually by the NC-ACP’s Council. The Volunteerism and Community Service Award was initiated to honor members of the American College of Physicians who have distinguished themselves as true humanitarians to be honored for their voluntary contributions in medicine.

In her native Calcutta, Dr. Saha cared for patients who could not afford medication and volunteered in community family planning centers. Upon arriving in the United States, Dr. Saha helped to establish a charity clinic in New York City and Connecticut. In Charlotte she helped found the Urban Ministry free clinic for the homeless.
