Damien Logan, Keara Richardson and Devin Gilchrist (center, on sofa) were the first three teens in Charlotte to receive Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs) to help their ailing hearts function while they waited for heart transplants.
All three received their new hearts and recently reunited with their care team at Levine Children’s Hospital. LVADs are designed to take over the function of the weakened heart's left ventricle, which delivers oxygenated blood from the heart to the body.
