Carolinas HealthCare System Honored With 'Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles' Award - Archived

July 17, 2012

Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS) has been recognized with a 2012 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award for its commitment to promoting, enhancing and maintaining the health and well-being of its workforce.

CHS was among 66 U.S. companies honored by The National Business Group on Health in June as recipients of the 2012 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award. Thirty companies, including CHS, were selected as platinum award winners for demonstrating proven levels of success in their workplace well-being programs. CHS initiatives included its nationally recognized employee health program, CHS LiveWELL.

“We are honored to be recognized among such a distinguished group of employers who are committed to the health and well-being of our teammates,” said Joseph Piemont, President and Chief Operating Officer of CHS. “We recognize that the future of healthcare rests in large part not on treating illness, but on keeping people well. We utilize this wellness model to care not only for our patients, but our employees as well.”

CHS LiveWELL serves more than 29,000 CHS employees with a host of workplace wellness initiatives, encouraging and empowering them to make healthy choices. The program offers services for fitness, weight maintenance, stress management and smoking cessation. In 2011, CHS LiveWELL received national recognition for its implementation of a technology-driven health management program for employees.

"Our employees create healthier lives for our patients; they deserve the same from us," said Debra Plousha Moore, Chief Human Resources Officer of CHS. "We believe that caring for the health of all CHS team members is not just our commitment - it is the promise we make to them each day."

In addition to its recognition of CHS LiveWELL, the award recognizes the range of other wellness initiatives CHS offers, including an employee assistance program, pastoral care, preventive campaigns, and local partnerships – such as those with area YMCAs – that benefit employees.

“Our wellness programs go beyond creating a healthy workplace environment – they extend to every aspect of employees’ lives,” said Lucy Thompson Dean, Assistant Vice President, CHS LiveWELL. “Our focus on health is truly comprehensive.”
