Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS) President, Joseph G. Piemont, today released the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court decision on the Affordable Care Act.
“All of the conditions that gave rise to the Affordable Care Act continue to exist. Today’s ruling changes nothing in the immediate term, and the long-term is yet to be determined.
“Our goal has been to create our own future, rather than simply wait for the future to be imposed on us. We have done this by concentrating on those aspects of the healthcare spectrum we can control.
“We provide care to those who do not have an ability to pay already, so in the Carolinas HealthCare System that has never been an issue.
“Healthcare in this country must continue to evolve – we must continue to move toward higher quality and lower costs for all patients.
“Today’s ruling does not substantially change the way Carolinas HealthCare System cares for our patients and continues to improve healthcare for the people of North and South Carolina.
“Our top priorities include achieving clinical excellence; improving customer service; integrating services across our entire healthcare system; seeking new efficiencies in the way we deliver care and operate our facilities; and innovating new models across the healthcare continuum. We will also be initiating more programs to encourage patients to take greater personal responsibility for their own health."
