CHS Wins Approval to Build Hospital in Fort Mill, SC - Archived
Statement Issued by Carolinas HealthCare System from Chris Hummer, President of Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville regarding the decision on the Fort Mill hospital by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control:
September 9, 2011
We're delighted that the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has selected Carolinas HealthCare System to build and operate the new hospital in York County.
Over the past several months, thousands of York County residents have reached out to us and expressed their excitement over this new hospital. We heard them loud and clear, and we look forward to starting construction as quickly as possible on Carolinas Medical Center-Fort Mill.
In the letter received today from the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) the department said the CHS application “most fully complies with the requirements, goal and purposes of (the) Certificate of Need program, the South Carolina Health Plan, Project Review Criteria . . .”
The letter also says, “the applicant has adequately demonstrated that its current significant level of market share and utilization will be sufficient to justify the implementation of the project.”
CMC-Fort Mill will mean hospital-based healthcare services will be more conveniently located to nearby residents. We are honored to be chosen to build this hospital and humbled by the incredible support extended to Carolinas HealthCare throughout the York County community. Our commitment to this area has been unparalleled for many years, as is evident by the more than 105,000 patients who already come to our physician offices for care.
We want to thank our physicians, medical office staff and other healthcare professionals throughout York County for their long-standing support of this effort. They are the real reason so many patients look to Carolinas HealthCare System as their Medical Home, and we know they are as excited as we are to be entrusted with the responsibility for the healthcare of so many people.
We pledge to continue our commitment to the York County community through the many programs we support. This includes our partnership with the Fort Mill school district through our athletic trainer program at the high schools and the free heart and concussion screenings for high school athletes through our Heart of a Champion program.
Over the next several months we expect to begin the planning and design process to make CMC-Fort Mill a reality. We also intend to work closely with local and state officials to move the development process along as quickly as possible so CMC-Fort Mill can become a reality.
