The agreement between Carolinas HealthCare System and UnitedHealthcare (UHC) for our doctors’ offices and hospitals in the metro Charlotte market ended on February 28. After months of effort—including our offer to extend the current contract, which UHC refused—we deeply regret that an agreement was not reached.
Our patients are our highest priority, and we will ensure they can maintain their care with Carolinas HealthCare System. Though our contract with United Healthcare has now expired, Carolinas HealthCare System will provide additional continuity of care benefits to our existing patients to ensure they can continue to receive care from us. At Carolinas HealthCare System, patients come first—always.
Carolinas HealthCare System hospitals will also continue to provide emergency care to all United members, as we do for all patients, regardless of the patient’s insurance coverage or ability to pay for such services.
Throughout negotiations, our commitment to our patients remained at the center of our efforts. We are proud of the strong and long-standing relationships we have with our patients, and we remain committed to providing them with the region’s highest quality care.
