Dr. Stefanidis serves as medical director of Carolinas Simulation Center, a dually accredited education institute which serves over 1000 diverse learners each year. He has published extensively on simulation-based educational research, obtained several grants and received 8 awards for papers of distinction. Dr. Stefanidis’ work on simulator training has contributed to the development of the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery Program, a national skills curriculum required of all graduating surgery residents. He is actively involved in several national initiatives around the development of surgical simulation curricula. Dr. Stefanidis is a board member of the Association for Surgical Education and serves as chair for its simulation committee. In his role as a Fellow, Dr. Stefanidis will provide expertise in educational research and integration of methods for acquisition of new procedurally-based skills.
