Since its construction in 1913, Anson Community Hospital has provided care for thousands of Anson County, North Carolina, residents. Carolinas HealthCare System Anson is more than a new building; it’s a new healthcare model for Anson County residents that will provide high quality care through traditional hospital services, patient and caregiver relationships, wellness and prevention education and strong community partnerships. This well-rounded model of care is known as a “medical home” and ensures that healthcare is a shared commitment between care providers, patients and the community.
Carolinas HealthCare System Anson, part of Carolinas HealthCare System, will open on July 14, taking the place of Anson Community Hospital.
What is a medical home?
A medical home is a unique partnership between a patient, care providers and the community that ensures expertise, support and resources are available to help individuals make informed decisions about their healthcare. Carolinas HealthCare System believes a medical home is the best model for patient care because of its patient-centered approach that focuses on wellness, prevention and disease management – delivery of care when and where the patient needs it.
As the center of your medical home, Carolinas Primary Care will coordinate with doctors and nurses, dietitians, community health nurses, social workers, diabetes educators and pharmacists to develop personalized care plans for patients and provide easy access to services and community programs within Carolinas HealthCare System.
What services will be in the new hospital?
Carolinas HealthCare System Anson will better address the healthcare needs of the community and the patients we serve. With improved access to a higher level of care services, Carolinas HealthCare System will include:
- 24/7 emergency care
- Access to primary care providers
- Patient-centered hospital services, including - 15 hospital beds, radiology, digital imaging, laboratory, pharmacy, surgery and inpatient services
- Enhanced community services, such as diabetes management, faith-based health care and community health nurses
- Access to specialty services through Carolinas HealthCare System, including - cardiology, pulmonology, behavioral health, OB/GYN, general surgery, urology and orthopedics

- A patient navigator to work with you on all aspects of your care
- Medical home that provides access to a team of healthcare professionals that deliver personalized care
- A FREE community room for organizations to meet right in the heart of Anson County

What services will be offered in the community?
Carolinas HealthCare System Anson is bringing healthcare out from behind the walls of the hospital and delivering care in new and innovative ways. By partnering with local public health organizations, like the Anson County Health Department, and other community partners, such as the school system, Carolinas HealthCare System Anson will provide access to Faith-based community health programs, a mobile unit for convenient care and educational opportunities focused on prevention and wellness.
Carolinas HealthCare System Anson will also implement many new healthcare innovations, including:
- Telemedicine for patient support and physician consultations, including psychiatry
- Seamless referrals to specialists and services for cancer, heart, rehabilitation and surgery to name a few
- HEALTHWORKS, comprehensive solutions for workplace health and wellness
Will OB/GYN services be offered at Carolinas HealthCare System Anson?
Carolinas HealthCare System Anson will partner with Union OB/GYN, as well as local community organizations and agencies, to provide women with a wide array of obstetrical and gynecological services and access to prenatal classes and resources.
For those in need of delivery services, Carolinas Medical Center-Union offers a broad spectrum of OB/GYN services as well as a variety of classes and seminars for expecting mothers and their families. In addition, CMC-Union is opening a new state-of-the-art women’s center later this year that will feature labor, delivery, recovery and post-partum suites.
