Aetna Leap-CHS Health Insurance Plans Will Not Be Sold on the NC or SC Health Insurance Marketplace for 2017
Aetna recently announced that it will no longer sell Aetna Leap-Carolinas HealthCare System individual health insurance on the Health Insurance Marketplace in NC and SC. If you have an Aetna Leap – Carolinas HealthCare System plan, here’s what you need to know:
This announcement does not apply to any other Aetna health insurance plans, including Aetna Leap-Carolinas HealthCare System health insurance plans sold outside of the Marketplace.
Carolinas HealthCare System will continue to schedule and treat all Aetna Leap – Carolinas HealthCare System patients.
Patients who currently have an Aetna Leap – Carolinas HealthCare System Marketplace plan can continue to have coverage through December 31, 2016.
Patients who have an Aetna Leap – Carolinas HealthCare System individual health insurance Marketplace plan will be able to select a new insurance plan during annual open enrollment. For 2017, open enrollment runs November 1, 2016, to January 31, 2017. To have health coverage begin January 1, 2017, patients must enroll in a health insurance plan on the Marketplace by December 15, 2016.
Blue Local with Carolinas HealthCare System from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC includes CHS doctors, hospitals and other care locations and is the Marketplace plan most comparable in physician network and price to the current Aetna Leap – Carolinas HealthCare System individual Marketplace insurance plans in North Carolina.
For residents of South Carolina, we expect to make announcements soon about 2017 individual health insurance plans sold on the Marketplace for which CHS doctors, hospitals and other care locations are in network.
